Generally, unless you intend to have employees, you do not need to get an EIN from the IRS website.  EIN stands for “Employer Identification Number”.  If you have no employees, and operate as a single person LLC, you can use your Social Security Number instead of an EIN for your tax ID number.  If you have one or more employees, or you operate as a multi-member LLC, then you are required to get an EIN from the IRS.

If you do take on employees in the future, you can always apply for an EIN when that happens.  As far as an Amazon Seller’s Account, you can always change your tax ID number from your SSN to am EIN in the future.

Now your bank may require an EIN when opening an account or your State tax laws may require you to provide an EIN when filing State taxes.  In those cases you should go ahead an apply for an EIN.

It won’t hurt anything to go ahead and apply for an EIN.  Just don’t let it stop you from selling!
